Many summer semester classes offer mini-sessions and shorter timeframes to help students fit classes into their busy summer schedules. With summer plans approaching, your student might realize that they can no longer commit to a summer class. Make sure they drop courses during the refund period to avoid being charged tuition and receiving a withdrawal grade. View the calendar for summer dates & deadlines.
Studies show that students who work their way through college graduate with less debt, gain valuable job experience, have better time management skills and even better grades (due to planning their study time more effectively.) There are many student worker jobs that can be found on campus at jobs.uc.edu. Looking for something close to home? Encourage your student to consider eateries, retail establishments, amusement parks, community centers, and more in your local community.
Encourage your student to check in with the One Stop Center before “checking out” this semester. It is always beneficial to have a staff member review your student’s billing statement, to-do list items for 2019-20, and answer any last minute questions before departing for summer break. Is your student graduating with student loans? Be sure they are familiar with the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) for loan balances, loan servicer information, and payment due dates.
