University of Oklahoma Move-In 2019 — All you need to know!Sooner Parents

It seems like yesterday we were bundled up indoors after walking through the freezing weather outdoors — but that’s all over now! Here are some fun outdoor activities your student can do during the summer months when the temperature heats up and the days grow longer:
The Dr. Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center is HUGE and features an indoor and outdoor pool, rock climbing/bouldering wall, gym equipment, tennis and racquetball courts, a basketball court, a volleyball court, plus more. Students use their campus ID card to access the center.
The Department of Sports and Recreation’s Nature Bound is offering several outdoor trips this summer, including biking, hiking, kayaking and more. Stop by University Stores for the perfect pair of KSU-branded shorts, T-shirts and water bottles.
There are several great parks to check out in the North Georgia area. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (KSU’s namesake!) features hiking trails as well as picnic areas. Red Top Mountain State Park sits right on Lake Allatoona and has several trails worth exploring with plenty of beautiful lake views. Swift-Cantrell Park is a local park with a skate park and a dog park along with a few walking paths. Make sure your student stays hydrated with a bottle of water available for sale at The Market and our on-campus vending machines.
The Chattahoochee River becomes a popular spot to visit during the warmer months. Common activities include tubing and kayaking. There are many local businesses that offer rentals for aquatic gear. Lake Allatoona is another beloved spot for outdoor activities like jet skiing, beach volleyball, fishing, kayaking and even camping.
Don’t have a bike? No problem! There are seven Zagster bike-share stations at the Marietta Campus; click here to see all of their locations. Students can download the Zagster app and ride for up to one hour every day for free and it’s just $3 for each additional hour. KSU’s Bike Shop at the Kennesaw Campus also has rentals available.
Sometimes, it’s just pleasant to hang out with some friends or read a good book. Your student can pick up an Eno Doublenest Hammock from OwlTEC and choose from the wide selection of novels at University Stores and then head to the Campus Green to enjoy a beautiful, sunny day.
University Dining’s Takeout Club allows students to take their favorite dining hall foods to go in a reusable container. Salads, pasta, sandwiches and garlic knots are the perfect foods to pack in your cooler and bring on a picnic. Be sure to protect your skin by picking up some sunblock from The Market.
While enjoying the outdoors, please make sure your student takes precautions to protect themselves from sun damage. They should seek shade wherever they can and cover up with long sleeve T-shirts (check out our selection at University Stores), a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Excessive exposure to the sun can cause permanent skin damage and cataracts.
Mosquitos seem to be everywhere during the warmer months; avoid being bitten by a mosquito by using EPA-registered insect repellant as instructed on the label. Click here to learn more about mosquito bite prevention.
