Interested in Studying Abroad?

The University of Alabama Parent & Family Programs

Study abroad is a unique academic experience full of fun, excitement, and learning. It takes a desire to go outside of your comfort zone and be challenged. Students have the chance to join an adventurous group of future leaders in our country by setting themselves apart with our education abroad opportunities! Students who choose to study abroad show a commitment to global citizenship and this distinguishes them in the classroom and the competitive job market.

The Education Abroad office is dedicated to assisting your student in their journey. We have conversations with your student about their goals for study abroad, getting appropriate course credit for their degree, seeking out financial aid and scholarships, and preparing for their trip.

This summer would be an excellent time to begin conversations with your student about study abroad programs and steps to take! Students at The University of Alabama have three options for study abroad: Exchange programs, Summer Faculty-led programs, and Affiliate programs. We have also expanded our UA Internships Abroad options, and now students can earn academic credit and work experience in Australia, Chile, China, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, and South Korea. Feel free to check out our Program Search tool where you can navigate by discipline, region, and program type.

Safety is the Education Abroad office’s utmost concern and priority. As we consider the current status of the world and receive inquiries from parents and students, we want you to know that UA is vigilant in monitoring risks and threats around the world. Below are a few of the resources that are used on an ongoing basis and more information can be found on our Health and Safety page:

  • US Department of State
  • Similar DOS agencies around the world such as the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (UK) and Smart Travel (Australia)
  • Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI)
  • iJet (Integrated Risk Management) in partnership with CISI
  • Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC)

Students who have studied abroad reflect on their experience as one where they have grown intellectually and personally; transforming their hearts and their minds. Hopefully, you will find many answers to your questions on our website, but feel free to reach out to the Education Abroad office with any additional questions or concerns. Our team is eager to support your student to make this unique opportunity a reality!
