Fight the flu this season!

By Kennesaw eNews

By Ashley Berberich

Flu season is just around the corner and now is the perfect time for your student to get a flu shot and take preventative measures. Kennesaw State University's Student Health Services offers year-round flu shots at any of its three on-campus health clinics. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone should get a flu shot every year — if your student still needs a flu shot this academic year, they should head to one of KSU's health clinics:

  • Campus Loop Road Clinic: 3215 Campus Loop Road near Austin Residence Complex, Kennesaw Campus
  • University Village Clinic: 1074 Canton Place NW in University Village, Kennesaw Campus
  • Marietta Campus Clinic: Located in the Recreation and Wellness Center, Building S1

Flu symptoms may include a cough, fever, muscle/body aches, sore throat, headache, fatigue and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea. In addition to preventing the flu, it's imperative to avoid spreading the flu.

Here are tips to share with your student:

  1. Avoid close contact with others who are infected.
  2. Stay home when you are sick.
  3. Cover your mouth and nose.
  4. Wash your hands.
  5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  6. Practice healthy habits — get plenty of sleep, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, eat healthily.
  7. Drink little to no alcohol.
  8. Sanitize your study and personal space.
  9. Bring your own pen instead of borrowing from others.
  10. Get a flu shot!

On-campus living often means being in close contact with individuals who might be infected; therefore, it's important for students to take necessary steps to prevent spreading the flu.

If they have a fever, students are encouraged to stay home and not attend class in order to get plenty of rest.
Appointments at the on-campus health clinics can be made by calling 470-578-6644 and visiting studenthealth.kennesaw.edu.
