Homecoming Week at SJSU!

Homecoming Week at SJSU!

Dear Campus Community,

Are you ready for Homecoming 2017?

What better way to start celebrating than with an unexpected spotlight on TV? Spartan Football got a pre-Homecoming surprise last week: a $25,000 gift from Ellen DeGeneres, who said “I love what your team is doing, so I want to do something for you.” It is heartwarming to see our players and coaches receiving recognition and support. Watch the team’s reaction in this video.

This week, the SJSU campus will be alive with events and activities that bring our community together. Many of our downtown San José neighbors will be decked out in Spartan décor. Look for restaurants offering specials for Spartans wearing blue and gold.

Below are some highlights for the week, but I’m sure you will find many ways to join the fun on the complete schedule.

  • Tuesday, October 3rd – The Homecoming Block Party starts the week with free food, games and giveaways 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. along the Seventh Street plaza. FREE Homecoming t-shirt to the first 1,000 students!
  • Wednesday, October 4th – The inaugural Golf Cart Parade will include clubs and organizations, athletes, cheerleaders and campus departments from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., beginning at the AS House and ending on the Seventh Street plaza.
  • Wednesday, October 4th – Campus MovieFest Finale, the world’s largest student film festival, is back for its 11th year. The top 16 films will be screened at 7 p.m. in Morris Dailey Auditorium.
  • Thursday, October 5 – Fire on the Fountain is a campus tradition that draws our entire community for games, food and entertainment. The festival fills Tower Lawn 4 p.m.– 9 p.m. Alumni are invited to a reception at the Smith-Carlos sculpture 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening culminates at 8 p.m. with the fire show and pep rally.
  • Saturday, October 7th – Game day! Put on your most spirited blue and gold, and cheer on our football team as they take on longtime rival Fresno State at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free for all students and faculty and staff members (with your Tower ID). Bring your family and friends! There is a student tailgate with food, giveaways and music 2 p.m.– 4:30 p.m. Shuttle buses from Campus Village to CEFCU Stadium begin at 1:30 p.m.

I look forward to celebrating with you next week. Let’s show our Spartan pride together!

Sincerely,

Sharon Willey
Interim Vice President for Student Affairs
