Scholarship Opportunities at Southern

Exciting news! Your student(s) may be eligible for merit-based scholarships from the University’s SCSU Foundation, Inc.!

Through the generosity of trustees, alumni, parents and friends of the University, a number of scholarships have been established on behalf of Southern Connecticut State University. Each scholarship has specific criteria. The scholarship awards range from $500 to $5,000. Distribution of the award is made in two equal payments in the fall and spring semesters (unless otherwise noted). The award will be applied directly to the student’s account upon verification that the student meets the criteria.

More than 300 scholarships are available each year for distribution in the next academic year.

The online application will open January 1, 2018 enabling your student to apply for all 300+ scholarships in ONE application.

To view the scholarships offered and have your student complete the online application, click here. (Note: the links may not be available at the time of this newsletter; in that case, please check back later this month.)

All currently enrolled full- or part-time undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply provided they meet the minimum requirements noted below. Awards will be applied to the 2018-2019 academic year.

To be eligible, students must be enrolled at Southern in the fall of 2017 semester and:

  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Have completed 12 credits for undergraduates, or 9 credits for graduates by the close of fall 2017

Please note that students graduating in December 2017 or May 2018 are not eligible to apply.

If your student meets the criteria, please encourage him/her to apply. Scholarship awards can go a long way in helping students with academic expenses. In addition to the financial support, earning a scholarship is an impressive addition on a student’s resume when it is time to apply for internships and jobs or to pursue further education. Please talk with your student about this wonderful opportunity.  Remember, there are more than 300 scholarships available for distribution to eligible students for the academic year 2018-2019, but students MUST complete the on line application before the deadline to be considered.

Questions? Encourage your student to contact Heather Rowe in the SCSU Foundation office at 203-392-6634 or Roweh2@SouthernCT.Edu. Please advise students to include their SCSU ID number in all correspondence.

The online application will close March 14, 2018.

  • Great article. It reminded me to ask my high school senior about which of her preferred colleges have reached out about a regional event. We attended an event like this with our older daughter who was attending school far from home and it was very valuable.
